ROLE SUMMARY
The primary objective of this position will be to manage and develop an important BI feature area within the Magic Orange product. This product is an exciting profitability and cost transparency offering which is pivotal to Magic Orange’s success.
This person will be a member of the Magic Orange team and operate in conjunction with the wider business, delivering measurable business results through BI solutions that meet both client needs and company goals.
This includes planning, co-coordinating, communicating and implementing BI offerings (including data gathering, software, presentations, documentation and training material) and gathering and prioritizing BI requirements, playing a key role in realizing Magic Orange’s product vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. BI Value Proposition:
    • Presents a clear overview and value proposition to clients and stakeholders.
  2. Roadmap:
    • Facilitates the planning of BI roadmap to support product and company goals.
  3. Drive Innovation:
    • Researches competitive products and brainstorms innovative product ideas, through market observations and user interactions, assessing ideas for both technical and business suitability.
  4. Manages Requests Backlog:
    • Translating client requirements into project briefs & product backlogs.
    • Conducting business requirements analysis
    • Facilitating the prioritization of product backlog of requests by business stakeholders to ensure the highest value ideas are addressed.
    • Performs release planning & co-ordination
  5. Manage Clients / External Relationships:
    • Ensuring business SLA’s are achieved and service quality and client expectations are met or exceeded.
    • Building and maintaining client/vendors relationships.
  6. BI Feature Development:
    • Responsible for driving development of BI Feature area.
    • Performs development of BI Feature area in an agile manner.
  7. Process Owner:
    • Provides an operating structure for BI related activities to ensure work is coordinated and efficiently managed.
  8. Manages BI Feature Development:
    • Manages UAT & BETA programs as needed.
    • Prepares documentation and training material as needed to drive adoption.

REQUIRED LEVEL OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Educational Background:
    • Matric
    • Degree in Information Systems, Engineering or Computer Sciences or equivalent qualification preferred.
  2. Previous Experience:
    • Minimum 3 – 5 years Financial reporting experience
    • Minimum 2 – 4 years in a technical development environment
      • 2 – 4 years’ experience with writing DAX
      • 1 – 2 Experience with M language specification (Power Query Formula Language)
    • Demonstratable experience with dealing with executive level stakeholders
    • Experience in a leadership role is a must
  3. Skills and Requirements:
    • 3 – 5 years solid report writing and presentation / visualization development skills.
    • Relevant experience in self-service tools such as PowerBi, QlikView, and Tableau.
    • Experience in SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Model
    • 1 – 2 Experience with M language specification (Power Query Formula Language)
    • Strong ability to interact with client business areas to elicit requirements and drive designs
    • Very good research skills and cost analysis skills.
    • Excellent data analysis skills
    • Required:
      • Experience with SQL Azure DB
      • Experience with using Visual Studio Professional (2015 and later).
      • Exposure to Azure required
    • Advantageous:
      • Experience with using Team Foundation Services, Visual Studio Online experience.
      • Experience with Visual Studio 2017
      • Experience with Azure Analysis Services

  2. IT Expertise:
    • Confident in 1 specific BI tool in several modules with some knowledge of a 2nd tool.

    • Good understanding of DWH concepts.
    • Can work on a mission without supervision

    • Recognize the needs of the client and can translate those needs in client solutions.
    • Keep the client aware of your planning and calendar.
    • Pro-actively keep the sales account manager aware of any changes with the client or your own calendar (sickness, holidays).
    • You are punctual in client meetings and for the follow up of administrative processes at the client.
    • You pay attention to your appearance and give a professional impression of the company
    • You manage constructively the client expectations and also their emotions (positive and negative) with a constructive attitude (asking supervision if needed) on a day to day basis.

    • Check that your ideas/message is understood through questions and re-clarification.
    • Communication and presentation techniques to facilitate the understanding of the message.
